“There are many superb recordings of the Clarinet Concerto but one would have to go a long way to beat Emma Johnson” – Classic CD
When a seventeen-year-old schoolgirl won the BBC Young Musician of the Year competition in 1984, the demand from the public for recordings of this charismatic new artist was so great that the major record retailers W.H.Smith commissioned the record label ASV to make a recording. The resulting disc became an enormous seller, the biggest selling record ever on the ASV label, and it continues to sell years later. The Mozart Concerto is the centrepiece of the solo clarinet repertoire and Emma Johnson re-recorded it in 2005 but this recording represents a wonderfully fresh view of the great work from the young virtuoso.
